Professional Study of Nursing

Title of the study programme: Undergraduate Professional Study of Nursing

Enrolment requirements: Completed four-year secondary school and passed the state graduation exam

Organization of the study and teaching:

Education comprises compulsory, general-educational and professional courses (i.e. basic medicine, preclinical, clinical and public health courses). In addition to compulsory courses, a certain number of elective courses are also possible to attend. The teaching is held in the form of lectures, exercises, seminars, demonstrations, and consultations, at the clinical departments, and in health centres. In basic medical courses a student is introduced to the structure and function of the human body. The mechanisms of the diseases, their causes, and the type and the way of drug action are studied in the preclinical courses. In the clinical courses, the diseases, the methods of their recognition, prevention and treatment, as well as health care and rehabilitation of the consequential damages are studied. The great attention is devoted to health care and the principles of the health care. In the public health courses, the influence of the environmental and social factors on the health is studied, as well as the activity of the bachelor of nursing in fighting the disease within a human's natural environment. During the study, the student is introduced to the basics of scientific research, statistics, and medical informatics. The final thesis is defended at the end of the study.

The programme is designed in accordance with the Directive 2005/36/EC, and the Act on Scientific Activity and Higher Education and its amendments (Official Gazette, number 123/03, 198/03, 105/04, 174/04, 46/07).

Qualification and title: Upon completion of the study, the professional title, Bachelor of Nursing (B.Sc.N.) is acquired

Abbreviation of the professional title: bacc. med. techn.


After the study:
Upon completion of the study, a bachelor of nursing will acquire the following competencies based on the learning outcomes:
  • apply the knowledge and skills in the field of health care;
  • assess the need for the health care, set the goals, and define priorities, plan and implement the adequate procedures (performance), also evaluate, and if necessary, modify the health care plan;
  • apply the process of the nursing care and keep nursing records, and evaluate achieved objectives in health care;
  • assess the need for education and the application of the principles and techniques of teaching the individual, family and community;
  • recognize an individual whose life is threatened;
  • participate in improving and ensuring the quality standards of the nursing practice, and continuously judge and evaluate the standards of the nursing practice;
  • participate in the education of nurses and other health care professionals and/or associates;
  • use modern information and communications technology in written, oral and electronic form;
  • interact with members of the health care team and other staff, as well as with a patient, his/her family and community;
  • carry out cooperation in the health care team at all levels of health care and cooperation in a multidisciplinary team;
  • his/her role in the health care team at different levels of health care will be monitoring the health of patients and individuals whose life is threatened;
  • he/she will have the possibility of further continuous education, monitoring related professions and researches in nursing, and will be able to participate in the education of nurses;
  • apply the principles of a unique nursing care while respecting the individuality of patients, using a holistic approach and partnership;
  • organize nursing care for different users in a variety of health and social institutions as well as in a patient's home and supervise its implementation;
  • self-assess the need and possibility for further personal studying;
  • use professional literature, develop responsibility for lifelong learning, professional development and improvement of competences in accordance with the needs of the labour market
