Basic Data

Title of the study programme: Graduate University Study of Nursing – Healthcare Management

Study programme implementor: The Faculty of Health Studies University of Rijeka

Duration of the study programme: 2 years

Organization of the study and teaching:
The health care reform in the Republic of Croatia anticipates the categorization of hospitals and hospital faculties as well as the establishment of a system of health standards, therefore it is also to expect a change in the professional profile of nurses. Respectively, the nurses should possess the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of human resources management, knowledge and skills needed to organize health care as well as for decision-making, risk management and business ethics. The study of Nursing, as a regulated profession, must educate professionals who will entirely independently manage and organize all processes in health care. Nurses should be responsible for organization, management and control of the work of nurses. Therefore, each nurse who has a leading position (within the hierarchy, from the head nurse of the department upwards) should possess these knowledge and skills. In accordance with the principles of the Bologna Declaration, the proposed study programme is structured and evaluated with 120 ECTS credits and lasts two years. During the first year, four modules are implemented: general-compulsory courses, scientific research methods, psychological-pedagogical module, and a module that comprises 9 elective courses, among which the student has to choose three. In the second year of study, three modules are offered: general-compulsory courses such as Health Care Systems in Practice, Risk Management in Health Care, Quality Control in Health Care, Health Care Associated Infections, and Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacotherapy. The second module under the name Business Organizational Module includes courses related to the organization of hospital services, dental care and specific institutions. In addition, this module includes coordination and supervision of health care. The third module comprises 6 elective courses, among which the student should choose two.
The final thesis is defended at the end of the study.
